Modern Connections Therapy is currently accepting new members for our adult process therapy groups. For many individuals, group therapy can be as effective as—and often more affordable than individual therapy.

Shawn Flynn

Licensed Clincial Social Worker

Hi, I'm Shawn, and I'm glad you're here.

If you're reading this, there's a good chance you've been carrying something difficult for a while. Reaching out for therapy can feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, and sometimes even overwhelming. I don't take lightly the trust it takes to share your story with someone new, and I strive to create a space where you can feel safe, supported, and genuinely understood.

I earned my Master of Social Work degree from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois Chicago. Throughout my career, I've worked with individuals navigating trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, perfectionism, and major life transitions. Many of the people I work with are exhausted from carrying too much, taking care of everyone else, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them.

I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist, a Board Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Indiana. I have also been trained in EMDR and currently serve as a co-facilitator for the Interpersonal Dynamics course at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Additionally, I am a student at the Center for Group Studies in New York City, where I continue to deepen my understanding of relationships, group dynamics, and the healing power of connection.

I founded Modern Connections Therapy because I believe meaningful relationships are at the heart of healing. Whether in individual therapy or group therapy, my goal is to help ALL people better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, and create lives that feel more authentic and fulfilling. Therapy is not about fixing what's broken—it's about creating space for growth, self-discovery, and new possibilities.

I look forward to meeting you and being part of your journey!

How Therapy Helps

If you're wondering whether therapy can really help, you're not alone. Most people have questions, doubts, or uncertainties before reaching out. Yet something brought you here. Maybe it's curiosity. Maybe you've been to therapy before. Or maybe a part of you recognizes the value of having a space where you can speak openly, feel understood, and no longer carry everything on your own.

There is something powerful about putting words to experiences that have lived quietly inside us. When we share our thoughts, feelings, fears, and hopes with another person, we often begin to see ourselves and our lives more clearly.

Therapy can help foster greater self-awareness, clarity, and acceptance. It offers an opportunity to heal from painful experiences, challenge patterns that no longer serve us, and develop a deeper understanding of ourselves. Through this process, many people find they feel less isolated, more connected, and better able to build meaningful relationships with others and with themselves.
